  5. Guest Speaker

    • Dean Fershée

      • Discussion about Library incident from Monday, February 3, 2025

        • Never had an incident like this in the last 20 years

        • Very rare, yet very serious event that is prompting administration to look at different ways to address access to the school, building, and library

        • Ban and Bar in place and this person will be arrested if they come back

        • Greater Creighton campus is aware of incident and that building is locked

        • Potential for looking at security cameras

          • There are cameras in and around the law school already

          • There is no way to NOT be on camera for anyone entering any entrance point in the building

          • Looking at best way to maximize security

        • Difficult balance but safety is critically important

        • Dean Fershee was disappointed in OPD's reaction to the event (did not feel it was taken serious enough). Has since had conversations with OPD and they are going to pursue taking action

        • Public Safety response was fast

        • Dean Fershee takes this incident very seriously and personally. Believes all of the students are his kids

        • Building will remain locked until the new security plan is in place – even after this 2 week period

        • Law library is a community resource and looking at best way to still have this resource available

        • Question about clinic clients and accessibility – stairs to the clinic entrance only.

          • Clients could make arrangements to meet with someone at the school building entrance if necessary

        • Question about what the message to the community is for people who want to know why the building is locked

          • Facts are the facts and we should not be in a spot where we're not telling the truth.

      • Discussion about three top professors leaving CU for other opportunities

        • Wishes them well and they are opportunities that they cannot get here

        • All courses will be covered even in their departures

        • Will be talking with the other deans about hiring new professors

          • Student interviews perhaps in March

      • Barbri

        • Moved away from Them Themis

        • Will be known as a Barbri School

        • Subsidizing for all students to have access

        • Current 3L's will not have to pay for Barbri Bar Prep going forward

        • Question about students who have already paid – will there be a refund?

          • Expectation is that there will be some refund

          • Barbri will be coming to the school to discuss this

        • Student fees will be going up next year

          • Post graduation loans and interest rates are high; discussion about rolling fees into tuition to address this?

      • OCI's

        • Been working with big firms to expand the group of people they interview

        • Firms are starting to look at this
