Conference Funding & Guidelines

GENERAL INFORMATION

This funding is meant to serve as a supplement for conference expenses. This service does not guarantee payment of all expenses. Funding allocations are provided on a first come, first served basis (equal amounts are set aside for both fall and spring semesters).

The Student Bar Association (SBA) has funds available to assist current Creighton Law School students and members of Registered Law School Student Organizations (“Student Organizations”) who are traveling to academic or legal-related conferences. For a given conference, SBA will provide funding of up to $1,000 for either:

a.  Up to two (2) students who are an Executive Officer or active General Member of a Student Organization, or

b. On an individual student basis for those attending a conference independently (i.e., not associated with or sent on behalf of a Student Organization)

Funding requests must be submitted during the academic year, at least 30 days before the conference. Please allow two weeks for a decision. Please note that this funding is meant to supplement conference expenses and is not guaranteed to cover all expenses. Funding allocations are provided on a first-come, first-served basis. If you have any questions, please email SBAVPFinance@creighton.edu.

ELIGIBILITY & REQUIREMENTS

 Eligibility

Current Creighton Law Students

  • Current Creighton Law School students shall be defined as any full or part-time Creighton Law student who is enrolled in classes during an academic year.

  • An academic year is defined as the Fall and Spring terms and may include the following Summer term if a student is enrolled in Law School Fall term classes in the next academic year (e.g., a current student in the Spring 2025 term would be a current student in the Summer 2025 term if enrolled in Fall 2025 classes).

Registered Law School Student Organizations

  • The Student Organizations must send students who meet the current Creighton Law School student criteria above.

  • Only Student Organization Executive Members can submit and initiate their Student Organization’s conference requests. General Members should contact their student organization’s Executive Officers if they want to represent their Student Organization at a conference.

  • A Student Organization Executive Team may use its discretion in deciding who will attend a conference on its Student Organization's behalf, whether that includes Executive Members, General Members, or a combination of both.

  • In the Spring and Summer terms, SBA recommends sending students who will be returning to the Executive Team or General Member during the next academic year so that the conference experiences and information can benefit the Student Organization sending the Executive or General Members.

Attendance Requirement

By receiving this funding, the student(s) sent shall certify that they will attend the entirety of the conference, and will use this funding as scheduled. A student who leaves earlier than their scheduled itinerary or does not otherwise attend, absent a reasonable excuse (e.g., medical emergency, family emergency, and the like), will be required to reimburse the SBA and/or the Student Organization that allocated the funds for their conference attendance.
